Abbey's Story: Why I Joined Project 2713

Why did I join Project 2713? Honestly, because of Sarah and her love for God and His children. I know that sounds cliché, but it's true.

When Sarah first told me about Project 2713, I thought it sounded like a great idea but I wasn’t sure I would be interested in joining the team. But then I listened to her fully explain the purpose for the project and her heart behind it. Hearing her passion for Project 2713, for inner-family adoptions, and the story of her own grandfather’s adoption, it was hard not to be inspired and eager to help.

Obviously Sarah’s fire isn’t enough to keep me going—how could it? I needed to find my own spark in this story. That has been coming on gradually. With every passing meeting and every time we discuss what we can do to help these kids and their families, my passion grows.

There is a real need for families that are adopting their own family members, and the fact that there are so few resources for these families is heartbreaking. Families give their whole hearts to their children—biological and not—so why shouldn’t some of their burden be lifted? Even if it is just something small, can you imagine the impact a little assistance would have?

I am part of Project 2713 because I want to be part of something bigger. I want to be part of helping inner-family adoptions and I want to be part of God’s plan for this organization. I can see His hand on Sarah and on Project 2713 and I can’t wait to see what happens.
